JIM JONES, 11.12.1923 – 27.10.2010
Jim Jones
passed away peacefully on 27th October 2010, aged 86. He made a final
and frail appearance with his beloved morris side at The Harp Inn, Wirral, on
the ‘banks of the Dee’ on 26th July 2010 where he managed to
accompany the music with his tabor, a familiar sight in recent years since he
had become too weak to dance. [Read More]
REGENCY REJIGGED
“ Regency dancers wanted for Georgian festival in the Lake District”
This notice on the table at the Church House Lawn marquee at Sidmouth in 2007, fired me up. I’d always enjoyed performing in costume, and years of morris, though still fun, had left me also wishing for something a little more elegant, both in dress and style.
I came home with plans, and gave out leaflets at every opportunity – ceilidhs, morris, social events. Others had also seen the notice of course, and we soon joined forces.
Under the watchful eye of local experts, we practised and honed our style and skills. We chose Playford or Playford style dances. These would still have been enjoyed in Regency times and of course are still danced today. Minutes of the MAD Folk AGM held at
Present : 33 people
Mary welcomed all present to the AGM and
thanked
Apologies for absence :
none received.
Minutes of the 2008 AGM were accepted and
there were no matters arising.
Treasurer's
report : John Smith explained that the accounts for 2008/9 and the 2008 Jane
Our income from group subscriptions and
adverts was £56. Our expenditure which comprised of postage, printing MAD news,
affiliation to EFDSS and AGM expenses was £102.89.
As of 1st. Oct 2009 we had a
balance of £45.29.
After VAT reclaim and the purchase 7 copies
of Country Dance Club Book the balance at 1st Oct from the two events
held in 2008 is £3557,57.
John said that there would be no need for a
group subscription in 2009/10. John thanked Bob Lightfoot for auditing the
accounts.
He also apologised for a printing error in
the Spring 2009 issue of MAD news when one page was printed twice and another
omitted.
Ian Arthur proposed that the accounts be
accepted and Renie Hordley seconded the proposal. The accounts were accepted on
a unanimous vote.
The two proposals for using the surplus
money generated during 2008 were then discussed.
The first proposal to make a one off none
returnable donation of £100 to all eight groups in Mersey & Deeside was carried
as was the proposal that the residue of the surplus money should be kept in
reserve to be used for specific projects which will benefit the district as a
whole.
Mary reported that David Haynes has been
engaged as webmaster for the district's web site. He will receive an initial fee
for restructuring the site as
www.madfolk.org.uk and an annual fee
for maintaining the site for as long as is mutually agreeable. Initial reaction
to the new site is very positive. Mary thanked Gerry Jones for his work on the
web site.
The possibility of a Costume Ball was
discussed but so far no date has been set.
Chairman's Report : Mary officially welcomed
Ainsdale group to MAD Folk. She thanked John for his work as treasurer, Chris
for his secretarial work and especially Sheila Davies for typing and collating
MAD News.
Election of Officers : As there had been no
nominations Mary Smith is to
continue as Chairman, John Smith as Treasurer and Chris Warrington as Secretary.
The meeting was followed by dancing which
all present thoroughly enjoyed by all present.
